A beanie for winter have a look at Pure Baby, Albetta or Bla Bla for a wide brimmed, summer sun hat or even a light cotton beanie will keep the nasty rays of babies delicate head.

For Bed

  • Basinet, Cradle or Cot

Either is fine, some like to put baby straight into a cot, others prefer a cradle or basinet. Really its about whatever works for you. Our only recomendations are to adhere to SIDS guidelines www.sidsandkids.org.

  • Mattress

Make it firm, well fitted to the cot or basinet and in great condition.

  • 3 Sheets sets

One for bed, one for washing and one spare.

Once again make them lightweight. Soft flannel, cotton or muslin are perfect. Even in winter muslin wraps are ideal as they are easy to wrap with and provide the comfort and security newborns crave.

For comfortable maternity bras have a look at www.zodee.com.au for a fab variety, or get a breastpump and save yourself the bother. And if it looks like you are going to need one for whatever reason hire a Medela pump from your local pharmacy or the breastfeeding association. For lotions and potions we have found Lasinoh a godsend for sore and cracked nipples.

  • Bottlefeeding

You will need 6–8 bottles. For a steriliser, try Avent or do yourself a favour and buy an electric steriliser. You will use it for 12 months plus and its a great time saver. For a bottle brush and bottle carrier check out these funky ones from Built NY.

For The Room

  • Night Light

Ceiling lights tend to be too bright for babies little eyes. Alternatively use a dimmer on your ceiling light.

  • Change Table

A great investment, will save your back and enables you to keep everything you need in the one spot. A change mat on a chest of drawers is also great just make sure its the right height for you and is securely on top of the drawers.

  • Chest Of Drawers

The bigger the better, remember the more storage the better, little babies become big babies and so do their clothes. Before you know it two full drawers turn into eight full drawers.

  • Comfortable Chair

Great for night time feeds and perfect for nightime stories and cuddles as baby grows.
