Fess up, we’ve all done it. Put a daggy party hat on our child just to get ‘that’ photo. As the party girl or boy breaks into tears deep down I think we all know we’re just doing it for us. My underlying view; party hats are a waste of money and the only people that benefit from them seems to be  Great Aunty Betty who after a few too many brithday shandy’s leaves the party still wearing hers!

With Goldilocks turning one recently we’ve both held and been to alot of parties and the ubiquitous party hat seems to always make an appearance! Whilst the dulcet tones of ‘Happy Birthday To You’ are being sung and a cake (we had a number 1) is produced, inevitably the guest of honour finds it all too much and breaks down into tears and ‘that shot’ becomes a cake, a crying toddler and a party hat with elastic that is too tight being pulled at.
