As Michael Jackson Said ‘It Doesn’t Matter If You’re Black Or White’!

The visial benefits of black and white objects, toys and artwork for newborn children is well documented.

As one who’s wedding was themed black and white  I don’t think you can ever go wrong with this colour scheme for any decoration within the home (for years I have coveted the now commonly seen black and white striped wall paper but have never found the right place to use it).  And because the weekend marked one year since the death of Michael Jackson we thought this post might be timely!!!

So whether you’re in the mood to nod to the King Of Pop, looking to help develop your little ones visual and cerebral skills or like me you just like the combination we thought these little bits and pieces might tickle your fancy!

Hip Product Alert! Skip Hop Swipe Baby Wipes Case

skiphop_swipefeature_largeWe are bursting at the seams with hip product so today….another hip product alert!

I’m not a very groomed person. If there’s toothpaste to spill on a black top I’ll spill it, and I’m finding as my tummy grows with this pregnancy I’m now at the lovely stage of if I drop food whilst eating it hits my tummy instead of heading south to the floor! My hair has a natural curl and most people with curly hair know it’s impossible to achieve that slick, styled look with a certain frizz that cannot be tamed, my pants always have abit of fluff stuck to them. You get the picture. Well Goldilocks takes after me. She’s always got a bit of breakfast stuck in her hair, a swish of vegemite on her pants or a crumb glued to her fat little so-delightful-I-could-kiss-it-all-day-long cheek! So with this in mind, I love love love the Skip Hop Swipe Baby Wipes Case.

This little gadget is great for hanging off the back of the pram for when you need a baby wipe pronto! DOn’t just think nappy changes, think grubby little hands, spills and crumbed cheeks! It has a quick draw button that can be opened one handed and dispenses wipes easily, neatly and one at a time! The translucent case helps with knowing when to refill.

Use this product and your only problem will be whether to have it hooked onto the pram….or hooked onto your handbag……..

Skip Hop Into The PlaySpot

skiphop_playspotbluegoldbaby_large1How cool is this? The Skip Hop Playspot is the perfect soft, cushioned floor mat for any nursery or play area in the home.

With a unique connector system the mat grows with your childs needs. When they’re stationery and little use just 4 of the 14 x 14 inch tiles joined together and as they crawl and wander and the sea of toys spread use all 20 tiles. if space is an issue, use 10 in the play area and 10 in the nursery so you have all bases covered!

What we particularly love about this play mat is that most of the mats on the market are safety rated for children 3 years and up, however this one is designed, tested and manufactured for children aged 10 months. So you’re sure to get some longevity out of this stylish playmat!

With a range of colours available there is sure to be something to suit both your decor and your little ones growing playtime needs!

Skip Hop Splash!

skiphop_splashred_largeSkip Hop have long been bringing us functional and stylish gadgets that make parenting easier. If you’re not familiar with the brand some of my favourites include the Bin-Go storage solutions, the Duo denim nappy bag and the Pronto mini changer. This new Splash bottle drying rack is a great example of the Skip Hop aesthetic, that is, it combines form and function making it the perfect addition to any kitchen space.

22 months on I still have bottles laying out on tea towels drying by the kitchen sink, taking up valuable bench space and looking rather unsightly should guests pop in! The circular shape is space efficient and it includes a brush to making cleaning quick and easy. No rummaging around to find the bottle brush!

Dishwasher safe and with a removable tray on the bottom for excess water removal the Splash stylishly keeps bottles, teets, dummies and straws off the kitchen bench.

Skip Hop Funky Farmyard Activity Mat In Action

Check out little Jonah, just 10 weeks old and he is working the Skip Hop Activity Mat like a true champ! The good news for everyone waiting for our new shipment they arrived today just in time for Christmas.

Splish Splash I Was Taking A Tidy Bath!

skiphop_tubbyorganiserblue_large1I’m a virgo and I like to keep things tidy. I like straight lines, items centred and a place for everything. I know I know…impossible with a 17 month old. And I’m trying to let it go, but the Skip Hop Tubby Bath Organiser only helps my tidy fetish!

Made out of neoprene (what wetsuits are made out of) this soft little bath toy storage device sits (or should I say ‘sucks’ ) on the end of our bath and is home to all our swimming, squirting, squeaking bath toys. The 4 suctions are suitable for tiles or glass and the clips on the front double as hooks for wash  cloths. The mesh on the front allows Goldilocks to see what’s inside and it also allows everything to dry out overnight, so there’s no mould.

So as we pull out the plug and I request ‘pack away time’ the virgo in me can’t help but smile as Goldilocks proudly pops all her toys back into the Tubby Bath Organiser. Order is once again restored to our bathroom. Ahhhhhh…….

Chocolate, Delicious Nursery Decor

chocolate_deliciiousThis time last year I was anti Chocolate, as in the colour..hated it, thought it was foul and could not understand why anyone would decorate a nursery in it. Now I cannot get enough of it, love it and could not imagine anything more divine for a little boy (or girl). I have put together a few of my faves, I am crazy about chocolate and red but the truth is, it looks fab with any colour, probably the reason for my new found love affair with it.
Love Mae Twitters, Ella & Otto Pods Bib Set, Fitted Sheet & Quilt, Tiger Tribe Elephant Mobile, Skip Hop Storage Bin, Alimrose Hand Knitted elephant and Booties, Zuny Linea Sedan Book Ends (arriving late November) Giimmo Panda Night Light.

Toddler Snacks. Please Sir May I Have Some More?

oliverGoldilocks loves the new Skip Hop ’Mate’ it makes meal times fun and a little more interesting for her with the three separate compartments and she is taking her first steps, albeit rather messily to drink from our super cute melamine cups (we have the polka dot) but I am at a loss of what snacks to feed her. Either I don’t feed her enough (which I don’t think is the case) she has worms (which I know is not the case) or she’s having a MAJOR growth spurt! But at the moment, the supply is certainly not keeping up with the demand!

Take yesterday morning for example, by 10am (she was up at 5am…when does daylight saving start!!??!!) she’d eaten 2 banannas (in separate sittings…p.s we’ve now had to hide the banana’s due to incessant ‘nana’ talk if she spots them), cereal and a piece of toast. I don’t think I can even eat 2 banana’s in a day!

After eating a full lunch she looks at me and out sprouts ‘more’! And not in an meek and mild Oliver Twist way….more like the response that poor old Oliver recieved. So after sultanas, a cheese stick, sandwhich, biscuit and yoghurt what more have I got to give?

At dinner she can put more pasta away than I can – I’m sure of it! It’s no mean feat to eat everything in those three compartments!!!

I know I should be greatful, better to have an ‘eater’ than a fussy one, but I’m running out of menu options! So this is a call out to all mothers of toddlers to offer up their best ideas for snacks or meal times, cause right now I’m at a loss and need some help. Me, the mother of the ‘moooooore’ toddler looks forward to hearing from you!

Hip Dad Profiles! One More Sleep Till Father’s Day!

We are happily celebrating Father’s Day and following on from yesterday’s Hip Dad profiles today we have two more ultra hip winners from our Hip Dad competition!

steve-tomName: Steven Wise
Lives: Adelaide, South Australia
Lives With: Wife Kate and eight-month-old son, Thomas

Tell us a bit about you and your family: Kate and I married in April 2008, and – much to our surprise – on our honeymoon we discovered we were expecting! Tom was born early 2009, and as he’s our first, it’s been quite an education and lots of fun.

I’ve been lucky to be working from home, so we’re both able to spend lots of time getting to know Tom, and vice versa. He’s quite a character and a true little boy -  I’m one of three boys myself so I know what my wife is in for!!

What makes you a ‘hip’ dad? I’m not sure how ‘hip’ I am, but I think Tom likes our long walks (Tom in pram, naturally) first thing every morning and it’s definitely father / son time. We make lots of friends on our walks as Tom is such a charmer.

How will you be spending fathers day? At my parent’s house with three generations of our family. Tom is the first grandchild so will be spoilt rotten, no doubt!

Best piece of fatherly advice that you will offer your child one day? Women are always right. (Just say ‘yes’, son…).

Best parenting tip/piece of advice? We didn’t use a dummy – in fact Tom rejected it early on – so instead he would suck on my little finger (I always cleaned it first, of course), which would settle him if he was upset. We picked this up from our paediatrician on our first visit.

What’s you’re favourite THI product? Skip Hop Pronto Mini Changer - we take it everywhere as it’s so compact and convenient to use.

rebecca

Name: Robert Jones
Lives: Rockhampton, Queensland
Lives With: My wife Rebecca and sons Luca (3.5 yrs) and Elliot (9 mths)

Tell us a bit about you and your family? My family and I live in Rockhampton in sunny Central Queensland, where I am studying for a Bachelor’s of Engineering degree.  My wonderful wife Rebecca is a travel agent who is on maternity leave at the moment looking after our beautiful boys Luca and Elliot.  When we are together we like to visit the zoo, and feed the ducks and the turtles at the botanical gardens. We also like shopping, and going for walks around the lovely old area in which we live.
What makes you a ‘hip’ dad?  Since I spend most of my day surrounded by 20 year old students, I find that I have to make sure I am up to date on all the latest fashions and musical trends in the hope that no one realises that I am in fact very old.
How will you be spending fathers day? With my family (getting a lie in if I’m lucky).
Best piece of fatherly advice that you will offer your child one day? Be kind, everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.

Best parenting tip/piece of advice? Go with your instincts!

What’s you’re favourite THI product? I keep my eye on the Read, Watch and Listen section – particularly the books. I love to read and it has rubbed off onto my sons that’s for sure!!

One more sleep to go – hope you’ve all planned your breakkie in bed menu for all the special Dad’s out there. Read our blog tomorrow to read about the final two winners of our Hip Dad competition!
